I think that the expansion of military activity, working towards military conquest, is the difference between Fascism and Communism.
Communism / dubs espoused a totalitarian belief system, making them, in my mind, more similar to each other than to Fascism. Hitler, I suppose, espoused a belief system as well, to a degree, but Im not sure that Mussolini or Franco did.
ok, i've known for a long time now that this is not "the one true religion", but i can't for the life of me, seem to make the final break.
i seldom go to meetings and am usually bored out of my mind when i do go, but for the life of me, after i've missed about 3 or 4 weeks i start feeling guilty about "missing meetings" and i'll go.
i'm really frustrated and angry with myself that i can't make the break, but in all honesty, there's still some people at the hall that i care about and i guess i'd miss them if i left completely.
Well Mary breaking away isnt easy and I dont think theres anything unusual about how you feel.Leaving the dubs fully, both physically and mentally took me many years. I dont think I mentally escaped its grip till Id been physically "out" for 15 years. So, its a long haul.
Try to see the usefull things that you learnt from the church. I myself didnt spend 20 years in a mind control group for nothing. I know a lot about social manipulation, learnt in the dubs, a usefull tool in dealing with others in a business environment.
As for your friends in the church... its true that I personally still think, often, about people I knew in there. But unfortunately the church forces you into a corner, causing you to choose between YOURSELF and the collective life. I dont think it would be wisdom to live a life of self denial and burying your inner self. In the end you will have to move in the direction of your own GROWTH....or forever be truly damned.

Well Ive been the worlds greatest achiever in loving women who didnt love me back. So I know all about "never having been loved". The relationships, in my youth and prime, missed out on thru my own ineptitude and failure to act decisively at the proper moment, caused me much pain for many years.
I Constantly replayed the failed incidents too, and generated endless fantasy fulfillments in my mind. All of this achieved nothing in the real world, merely draining my energy and reinforcing a sense of failure. After many years, and having greater confidence, I went in pursuit of many of the "unrequited loves ",ringing them up and 'resurrecting the dead' once again, but, in the main, that proved fruitless also. Frustration and self loathing was my lot.
Eventually I scrapped the past and started concentrating on being powerfull in the "now" / present. A much more successful manner of dealing with things.BUt I was about 40 before I really woke up.
but not according to me.. for the number of jws still going strong the ones here is but a handful, so mabye most of you are just pitiful whiners who should accept a little personal responsibility for your lives and quit trying so hard to blame someone or something.

Let her back on. I liked NG, even if she was insulting and insensitive, but then Ive always liked bossy opinionated women. Ask my missus.....Ask Prisca.
franz stated something in this mind-blowing book which was definitely true for me.. he stated (this is a poor paraphrase) that very early on during a "study", witnesses can easily show what's in the bible regarding god's name, the condition of the dead, living on paradise earth, etc.
once these are proven to a person's satisfaction, when the study moves on to more complicated matters, it is just easier to accept what isn't understood on the basis that so far, everything has seemed true.

Well Berylblue, I dont know why you criticize your eloquence. You are one of the most sincere posters here and its hard not to be moved by what one reads when you write from the heart. I know its all very traumatic . It was for all of us.But you have learnt the horrible truth- Noone can save your soul with a placebo religious pill. Not really.Noone except YOU. I know that many spend their entire lives in delusion unwilling and emotionally incapable of facing the realities of life, theyde rather dream dreams of utopian gardens and suchlike.

sorry if the title came across as a "minimus question," but after posting to one of joelbear's threads, i thought of my experience with therapists.
all together, i've spent between 20 and 30 hours in counseling on two separate occassions and, i'm happy to say, both of the counselors and both of the experiences remain very good memories.
i found out early on that for them to do their job, you had to be bluntly honest so that's what i did.
Ive had a couple of stints at the psychiatrist in times past. Mainly issues to do with the church. Like the time I thought I was possessed. Fortunately the shrink was a good listener and he listened very intently while I talked myself out of that belief within 4 sessions.So far Ive always been able to think myself out of any mental hole Ive dug myself into. Being a drug user didnt help me, so I stopped that, and Im pretty stable now.
